“To Live the Truth in Love.”
(Ephesians 4:15)
The Mission of Heavenwards
May 24, 2003. The day of my ordination. As I prepared myself to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders, I asked the Lord to give me a word that would exemplify my ministry. As I began my prayer, I read the letter of Paul to the Ephesians and these words, "Living the truth in Love" (Eph 4:15) in particular struck my heart. I felt the Holy Spirit was asking me to stop there. I did, and I became aware that those words contained all that I was asking. "To Live" points to the fact that Christianity is a dynamic lifestyle. Christianity is a way of living based on the Good News. "The Truth" points to Jesus. The Truth is not something we believe in but, first and foremost truth is a person, Jesus. "In Love" encapsulate all we have to do and how we do it. To love is to fulfill the law (Rom 13:8). This is the reason and the mission of heavenwards.org: to help anyone who wants to be empowered to be a disciple of Jesus by putting into practice the Gospel.
Heavenwards!
Welcome to
Talents: Five, Two, One
At times the simplest things are the hardest ones to understand or to remember. This week the Gospel reminds us that the Good News is based on a very simple truth: God has invited us to the greatest feast ever. The banquet where He shares His own life with us.
Banquets are more than just sharing food and drink. It’s a way of being connected to a social network. One’s identity is totally changed when the invitation to the party is accepted. One’s position in society would change because of a feast. Now, imagine: it is the King Himself that invites everyone, the good and the bad. What a revelation: God’s family is not a club where people determine membership. The Church is much more than that — people, good and bad, that are invited to the Wedding. Regardless of what we may think about ourselves, God invites us to be part of His family.
Day after day, week after week…the King continues to invite people to the feast of His Son, continues to invite us to grow in the Children of God that He made us.
Just as the people in the parable did, we may opt not to go and continue with our business. It’s a choice only we can make. What will it be?
On the Daily Walk Heavenwards podcast, we will explore what the Word gives us this week as a challenge.
